Supermoto World Series Heads to Bulgaria

The Grand Prix of Italy, held on April 3rd marked the opening round of the new SuperMoto season. Now, Bulgaria is ready to host another round of the 2011 FIM SuperMoto World Championship and UEM SuperMoto European Championship this weekend.

The Grand Prix of Bulgaria will be disputed at the exclusive tarmac track of Pleven, a demanding circuit located in the North of the country at the center of the Danube lowland.

Riders will have to positively face the tough 516- meter asphalt sky section and the 1204-meter slide. Only the most competitive will have the chance to stand on the Bulgarian podium, that last year was conquered by Mauno Hermunen, protagonist of a maiden GP. The Finnish challenger was joined by talented Thomas Chareyre and Davide Gozzini, who clinched the second and third spot respectively.

Taken separately, the star of the Italian GP was defending World Champion and red plate holder Thomas Chareyre of TM Factory Racing. Chareyre finished in front of the Husqvarna Factory member Mauno Hermunen and the HM Honda Racing rider Ivan Lazzarini, who came in second and third place respectively.

“The two are detaining the same positions also in the Championship standings: Hermunen has a 15-point gap from the French leader and is separated from Lazzarini thanks to an 11-point advantage. The latter should pay attention to KTM 747 Motorsport Davide Gozzini, who is only one point far from him,”
an official statement reads.

Finally, after the first race of the UEM European Championship, Italian Massimiliano Porfiri of the Freccia Team is detaining the leadership in the standings, followed by team mate Teo Monticelli. The top three is rounded off by the KTM 747 Motorsport rider Alessandro Tognaccini.
