The Italian automaker is now launching a new eco test-drive program at 10 London area dealerships. Every customer that visits a participating Fiat dealer will have the opportunity to take an eco test drive. This is similar to an ordinary test drive only that it measures drivers' performance in terms of the environment.
After eco testing the Fiat 500, Kidd seemed thrilled by the small car.
"The Fiat 500 is a lovely car," said Jodie Kidd. "And eco:Drive technology is absolutely right for the moment. People should be thinking more about their driving and the environment – it's a great idea."
With the help of the eco:Drive technology using the Blue&Me entertainment and communications system , the driver will know how he/she performed and how he/she could become a more fuel-efficient motorist. Plugging a USB key into the Blue& Me port allows eco:Drive to record information about the motorist's driving style. After the eco test-drive, the USB will be inserted into a computer and the driver will be shown the results. Thus, the motorist will find out how he/she has been driving based on acceleration, deceleration, gear changes, and speed.
"Test drives are, for some, questionable from an environmental perspective, yet everyone wants to test a car before they buy to make sure they like it," said Elena Bernardelli, marketing director Fiat Group Automobiles UK. "Our test drive allows them to test the car, ascertains how they drive in environmental terms and gives them tips on improving, regardless of whether they buy from us or not."
