Stewart Sees Webber Big Title Favorite in 2011

Mark Webber is seen as a real contender for the world title in 2011, as far as triple F1 champion Sir Jackie Stewart is concerned. Although the Scot nominated Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button as the guys who will hold improved chances for the title next year, Stewart believes Webber will be the one everyone should keep their eyes on.

I think that Lewis and Jenson have the skills and are with the right team to do it,” argued Stewart during the recent BRDC Awards, according to ESPNF1.

Both of them are capable of winning the world championship but I think that Mark Webber at 34 years of age has a good toolkit in his box, enormous experience, enormous knowledge as well as wisdom now.

Stewart also argued that, although reigning F1 champion Sebastian Vettel has all the right assets to become a multiple world champion in the series, the stress he will be subject to in the years to come, being so young of age, may affect him negatively. Which is exactly why the Scot would pick Webber for the 2011 title, as he's a much more mature racer. Besides, maybe he'll even complete a whole season with his health intact.

Vettel is now having to appear at all sorts of functions all around the world and that takes its toll on any racing driver. I've been there and when you are doing major commercial appearances on a global basis you tend to start the season probably as tired as you were when you finished the previous season so that sometimes takes the edge off a driver,” he added.

2011 will likely be Webber's last chance of becoming king of Formula One, as his contract with Red Bull expires at the end of next season. With the way things are going between him and the team bosses, it's likely that his deal will not be renewed for an additional season at the end of next year's campaign.
