With a new Porsche model appearing every year and thousands of tuning projects surfacing for the 997 and its successor the 991 generation 911 sportscar, we almost forgot about the good-all 996.
But the car that basically underpinned the 997 is definitely impressive in its own right, being the car that sparked a revolution in terms of body style for the 911. The 996 is also infinitely tunable, as is demonstrated by this awesome widebody project from SSR Wheels.
Our favorite part is not the way the arches are flared, but the way the stock lights reveal the added width. It’s also got an amazing wing design and custom titanium exhaust that shows it means business.
When the body was finished, SSR shot the car in matte gray to give it a more modern look. This posed a problem for photographer John Zhang of 1013MM, who made these amazing photos pop out. The owner should feel really proud of his custom 996.
