Spyshots: BMW Z4 M-Sport Package

Here's a bit of good news for those disconcerted by BMW's announcement that an M flavor for the Z4 will not be built. Even if the real M won't get here in roadster clothing, the next best thing is in the works: the M Package for the Z4.

At least this is the official story. The Z4 caught going round the Nurburgring track is wearing the distinctive M-Sport package give-aways. The main changes the M lettering will bring to the Z4's body will consist, visually, of different front an rear bumpers and M badges. From the performance standpoint, it is likely the Z4 M-Sport package will carry tighter suspensions, as well as bigger, bulkier wheels.

As for the engines to be fitted on the Z4 to go with the M, our guess is BMW does have something up its sleave. If you remember, BMW used to swear they will never roll out an M version of the big X5. So, prior to changing their minds and unleashing the 555 horsepower X5M and X6M, BMW released the X5 M-Sport package with...an upgraded engine.

We will not go as far as telling you to keep an eye out for the Z4 M. But do keep an eye out for a Z4 M-Spot package with a tuned engine as well. Of course, the most likely Z4 to get an engine tweak as well is the sDrive35i, the one caught in these photos.

Rumor however, goes the M package, without the engine tweak, will be offered for the entire Z4 range. Details are expected to surface in the following weeks, so keep an eye out for developments.
