Spyshots: 2014 Volkswagen Passat Test Mule

Volkswagen is all about its new MQB platform, and our guess would be that they will replace every car that fits this as soon as possible, even though some are relatively fresh. The current generation is designated the B7, but it’s actually a facelifted version of the older B6. It’s only been around since the 2010 Paris Motor Show, but the B8 will be quick to replace it.

Our spies have captured a test mule for the next generation Passat in a station wagon configuration, while it was undergoing cold weather testing in Euro. It’s hard to believe the MQB will underpin both this giant family car and the new A3, but it will also do so while cutting costs and simplifying production.

Judging by the way the wheels sit on the test mule. The Passat will become a bit wider with the arrival of the new generation. Also, the instrument cluster and part of the dash were covered up, so we expect the mule has been fitted with some of the new Passat’s tech.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
