Mercedes-Benz is now working full throttle to finalize the development of the new SL, with the vehicle being recently spied by our photographers stretching its wheels on the Nurburgring.
We are talking about an advanced development stage and the SL is still wearing a lot of camo, so, even though the car will bring a plethora of visual changes, we really can’t say too many things about the.

Of course, the SL will keep its silhouette, but the vehicle will adopt the new Mercedes sports car face, which means that we’ll probably get an upright front grille. As for the engine range, the vehicle will bring an explosion of fresh powerplants, starting with the 3.5-liter V6 that we tested on the SLK and the new 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 unit.

However, the most important thing about it is that it will be lighter, as Mercedes-Benz will use special materials, such as carbon fiber for the vehicle. In fact, Daimler has announced a collaboration with Japanese textile producer Toray earlier this year, with the deal set to bring new materials for the SL. This will not enhance performance, but also make the car greener.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL is expected to arrive at next year’s Geneva Auto Show, but the car could show its face earlier. We'll be back with ore details as soon as we get our hands on them.
