While the new generation of the BMW 5 series, the F10, is already playing with the customers’ senses, the M version of the saloon is still training for the German Powerwars.

We present you a new set of spyshots that shows the car’s winter testing session in Scandinavia. The M5 has dropped the plastic camouflage but is now dressed in psychedelic clothes. Its front fascia still seems to be far from the production form, judging by the air intakes’design. The test car doesn’t feature too many M visual parts: you can only tell that it’s something more than a regular 5 series by the large cross drilled rotors and the 4 generous tailpipes, a signature of the M range.

As for the M5’s heart, it is expected to put the current naturally aspirated 5.0 liter V10 in a museum shelf and borrow the 4.4 liter twin turbo from the X5/X6 M nonidentical twins. The new 555 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque powerplant pushes the SUVs past the 60 mph mark in 4.5 seconds so it should do wonders on the new M5, which should be approximately 400 kilograms lighter.

The new engine, that places the M5 30HP above the recently-introduced Mercedes E63 AMG and 16 HP below the Audi RS6, will be matted to a DCT dual clutch gearbox, with a 6 speed manual expected to be offered as an option.

The 2011 BMW M5 will probably use materials like carbon fiber and aluminum to save weight and achieve an optimal weight distribution, as the M5 has always been a “handler”.

We expect not to get a CSL version, just like we didn’t for the E60 M5 either, and we’re looking forward to seeing the new supersaloon becoming a Nurburgring Taxi.
