Spyshots: 2010 Mercedes E-Klasse Estate

Following the unveiling of the new generation S-Klasse, including the Hybrid S400 version, German manufacturer Mercedes is now getting ready to release the Estate version of its E-Klasse range. This version is expected to go under the spotlight at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show but, until then, the spyshots we bring you here show the E-Klasse Estate as camo-free as possible.

Whereas no big changes compared to the sedan were expected for the front end of the car, the overall lines of the estate and the rear end were the main focus of the speculations. As you can see here, the back, apart from the tail light clusters, is perfectly visible.

The next E-Klasse will use the S-Klasse’s wheel-arch extensions, rising character line below the door handles, as well as massive bumpers and greenhouse. A more sculpted wide-frame grille, the more geometric nasal air intakes, and the wedge-shaped profile is set to make it look sportier, even if it is an Estate.

As for the engine, the E-Klasse will use the manufacturer's V6 and V8 engines. There is no getting around an AMG version for the Estate as well, which will most likely use a normally aspired 6.2l V8, capable of developing in excess of 500 horsepower.

The Estate version will use all of the technologies developed by Mercedes, with a special accent on the ones created to assist the driver. Lane-departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors and stability control that accounts for crosswinds, camber changes and tire wear, they are all to be fitted on the new E.
