Many people believe the AirTag reinvented the wheel, but what the device actually did was to adopt a concept already available for several years and significantly upgrading it with new-generation capabilities.
The device uses the Find My network to communicate with any nearby iPhone and share its location with the owner, therefore allowing it to work almost in every little corner of the planet without a direct connection to the master device.

As it typically happens when a tech company comes up with a brilliant idea, other firms launch rival products with similar capabilities. Someone on Indiegogo proposes an AirTag alternative with a stunning design and great features.

Slimca Here is a tracking device that also connects to the Find My network, therefore it can share its location with the owner no matter where it is. The biggest difference is the design, as the tracker is as thin as a credit card. In fact, the whole design is supposed to resemble a credit card, so you can carry it around in your wallet in the same place where you'd normally keep your Visas and Mastercards.

The device's inventor somehow found enough space to integrate a USB-C connector into the slim design. The port is required to recharge the integrated battery, as compared to the AirTag, the device doesn't come with a replaceable unit. The rechargeable battery should provide up to five months of autonomy per charge, so it matches the AirTag performance without relying on a replaceable unit.

The device also integrates two speakers that allow you to trigger an audio alert when you receive a notification that someone might be tracking you.

Slimca Here also comes with a push button with various features. One long press powers it on, while four short presses and a long press triggers the device's reset. Six short presses shut it down.

Compared to the AirTag, the device also integrates functionality to turn on and off, so if you're planning to track your car, make sure you hide it in a good place. The thief would be able to turn if off quickly, whereas on the AirTag they'd have to remove the battery or crush the device to block it from sending its location to the mater device.

Slimca Here made its way to Indiegogo earlier this month, asking for crowdfunding support to enter mass production. The funding goal was reached, as users donated over $138,000 to allow the tracker to come to be. If you want to secure the device, you must donate at least $31 for the early bird package. It includes one tracker. A $35 package includes a tracker and RFID blocker.

If everything goes according to the plan, the mass production should begin in March 2024.
