Mercedes-Benz proudly announced today that global sales rose by two percent in the first ten months of the year, totaling 1,073,700 units, compared to “only” 1,056,900 vehicles in the same period of 2007. However, October sales were decreased by 18 percent, the carmaker said in a press statement, with 93,800 units this year and 114,600 in October 2007.

Beside all of these, smart became Mercedes' best-seller with an increase of seven percent in October (global sales grew up from 10,700 units in 2007 to 11,300 units in 2008). Moreover, Mercedes says sales of the two-seater version rose by 47 percent since January, totaling 113,200 units compared to 77,100 models sold in the same period of 2007.

The C-Class brought pretty high sales, with demand increased by 21 percent, now reaching 380,300 units, in comparison to 315,400 vehicles in the first ten months of 2007. “A total of 5,700 customers bought the new station wagon model in October, nearly five times more than in the same month last year (October 2007: 1,200),” Mercedes explained. The new CLC sports coupe met increasing demand too, with deliveries increased by 56 percent in October to 2,200 units (only 1,400 units in October 2007).

The German car manufacturer explains that the new GLK model “received a very positive customer response” since it was officially launched in Western Europe on October 18.

“In Germany, for example, the unveiling of the compact SUV in the showrooms was attended by more than 100,000 existing and potential customers. Numerous test drives were offered to the visitors to enable them to experience first-hand the GLK’s outstanding handling properties both on- and offroad,” Mercedes said in the press statement.
