The 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake seems to be making the guys over at Shelby American very proud. Otherwise, they wouldn't insist on reporting the pony's new quarter mile times as soon they stopped the engine.
Now don't get us wrong, we can understand their excitement. Why? Well, heck, it's a 850 HP Super Snake we're talking about… it's the GT500 to end all GT500 that Carroll Shelby himself would be very proud of.
While having some fun with the Super Snake out on the Brandenton Motorsports Park drag strip in Florida, Shelby American recorded a series of mid ten-second quarter mile runs in excess of 135 MPH. That's something they're entitled to brag about, because it's the fastest Mustang they've ever built.
"The 2013 Super Snake is one of the most amazing Mustangs we’ve driven and is the fastest and most responsive Mustang we’ve tested to date. It makes every bit of the advertised 850 horsepower, and we put it to the test on the track. It produced a series of mid-10-second runs at over 135 mph, which is staggering performance for a 50-state-legal, emission compliant vehicle. Our best run clocked a 10.66 second time at 137 mph with Nitto NT555R street tires," Shelby American said in a press release.
Excited? Fair enough! Want one of these 850 HP beasts? All you have to do is come up with $39,995 for the ultimate Shelby package, not including the base car. Hurry up though, only 500 will be built!
