Scott Riggs to Race for Keyed-Up

After completing his last full season on NASCAR's first stage in 2008 and racing for 2 races with Tommy Baldwin Racing in 2009, Scott Riggs returns to the Sprint for another incomplete season.

Riggs has been confirmed as the driver of the No. 90 Keyed-Up Motorsports Chevrolet for at least the next two races, at Phoenix and Texas. His arrival became a necessity after Casey Mears has been announced as Denny Hamlin's replacement for the Phoenix race.

“We are thrilled to have Scott in our car,” team owner Raymond Key said according to Auto123. “We had competitive speeds this year in qualifying attempts but the ‘Top 35’ rule has kept us from racing. We now look to Scott for his input on how we can succeed in getting into the top 35 in points with him behind the wheel.”

As you already know, the usual suspect in the No. 11 Toyota belonging to Joe Gibbs Racing, Denny Hamlin, had to undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament. Being uncertain for the Phoenix race, Joe Gibbs named Casey Mears as Hamlin's replacement. Mears was Keyed-Up Motorsports' driver in the beginning of the season, with his contract expiring after the first six races.

Hamlin, the winner of Monday's Martinsville race, will undergo surgery on Wednesday. According to his doctors, the surgery does not guarantee a quick recovery for the driver.

"From what the doctor told me and that's really all I can go by, is that recovery for everyone is different," Hamlin said. "Some people take right to it; some people it takes a little bit longer. Everyone is different."
