Schumacher to Become Mentor of Germany National Football Team

Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One racing seems to have created a great boost for the German footballers preparing for this summer's FIFA World Cup in South Africa. According to some reports in Germany, the very coach of the Germany national team Joachim Low admitted that Schu's giving some speeches to his players prior to the start of the aforementioned competition would certainly help them in their quest for another world title.

For many of my players, Michael is an idol, a true hero. And it is our wish to meet stars or champions from every category of the sport and listen to them telling us how they train and work to stay on top,” said Low, according to the German media.

Consequently, it seems the German Football Federation (DFB) has asked the 7-time world champion to “lecture” the German football team during their last training camp before heading to South Africa, between May 21 and June 2. However, neither Schumacher nor a spokesperson from the DFB issued any official confirmation about it.

Germany qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup first in their group, after beating rivals Russia in Moscow 1-0. They were the only team in the group to finish the qualifiers without a single loss, winning 8 matches and recording 2 draws.

Heading to South Africa this summer, the German team will try to win their 4th title in history, as their last winning campaign happened during the FIFA World Cup 1990 in Italy. Since their first world cup campaign in 1934, Germany won 3 titles (1954, 1974 and 1990) and were vice-champions 4 times (1966, 1982, 1986 and 2002).
