Saab Convention Kicks Off in Aurora

Carefree, now that the Swedish brand has been saved from GM's ax, owners of Saab vehicles are invited by the Saab Club of North America to Aurora, Ohio, to shake hands, exchange ideas and, of course, celebrate the company's newly found identity.

The convention will kick off today, at the Nelson Ledges Road Course and will end on July 25. For the duration, Saab will offer the new 9-5 Aero sedan for test drives, while the convertible version of the model will be only on display.

"We applaud the members of the Saab Club for their continued loyalty to the Saab brand throughout an extended sales process,"
Mike Colleran, Saab Cars North America COO said in a statement. "Saab is back and back to stay - we thank the Saab Club for their efforts in helping to save Saab."

Several competitions will be organized for Saab fans and vehicles, including the Concours d'Saab and People's Choice. The organizers even set up a competition for Saab owners who cannot attend.

This will be first Saab convention since the Swedish manufacturer has been taken over by Spyker. To emphasize that even more, the savior of Saab, Spyker's CEO Victor Muller, will accompany Saab's Jan Ake Jonsson to the Aurora.

"Members of the Saab Club sincerely extend their gratitude to Mr. Muller for his tenacious efforts to save Saab and Jan Ake Jonsson for his continued loyalty to Saab," added Ian Glenday, Saab Club North America president.
