With a body that closely resembles the BMW X6 and the added benefit of the Mercedes badge, the GLE Coupe is going to be very popular in places like Russia. Some may say it's designed with bad taste, but that's a positive thing in a country that's woken up from decades of communism and economic hardship.
There's no good way of tuning something like the GLE, but there's a simple one - just add a wrap, change the trim and the wheels.
This is precisely what we are dealing with here, as the Sports Activity Coupe has been fitted with alloys from Vossen and a wrap that changes color from brown to purple with hints of green. Wrapping has become so mainstream that dealerships in Russia can now do it for you before the delivery of the vehicle.
What's interesting is that this is clearly not a hot version of the GLE Coupe. Based on the shape of the exhaust, we think that it's either the 400 4Matic gasoline model or the 350 d. The former packs 333 horsepower from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter and is available in Russia from 4,870,000 rubles (64,780 euros), while the latter packs 249 hp from a simple diesel engine and costs exactly the same.
Other things that are worth pointing out is that all the little pieces of trim have been tinted black, just like the roof and windows. This GLE also has the side steps, which not many people want.
We can't say that the four-door sports activity coupe blends into the urban background. But considering the Russians buy so many SUVs, many of the owners are young and just want to stand out. At the end of the day, you've got a purple 2.2-ton coupe with a Mercedes badge and a V6 engine. It tells the world "I've got some money and I'm not afraid to show it." At least it's not gold!
