Romain Grosjean Wins GP2 Race in Monaco

French driver Romain Grosjean scored his second win in the GP2 Series this season at Monaco, after leading another 1-2 for Barwa Addax. The 2008 GP2 Asia Series champion powered to the Monte Carlo win from pole position, crossing the finish line some 6 seconds ahead of teammate Vitaly Petrov (just like in the first round of the GP2 Series, in Barcelona).

From the early laps in the race it was quite clear only a Barwa driver would win it, as the two drivers separated from the pack until the first pit stop. Here is where Grosjean got the edge over the Russian driver, as he managed to score some quick laps mid-way through the race that were to secure him enough margin to comfortably win the race.

Third place was clinched by Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi (Racing Engineering), who managed to climb the podium after ART Grand Prix's Nico Hulkenberg spent a little too much time at the pits. Andreas Zuber (Fisichella Motor Sport International) went on to finish fifth, ahead of DAMS driver Jerome D'Ambrosio. Ocean Racing Technology's Karun Chandhok and Super Nova's Javier Villa went on to complete the Top 8.

Although there were plenty of minor incidents involving slight crashes into the barriers, the safety car stayed in for the entire duration of the race. No less than 9 drivers failed to finish the race, more than one third of the GP2 field.

Thanks to his maiden Monaco Grand Prix win of career, Grosjean now extended his lead in the point standings, resting on 31 points, ahead of teammate Vitaly Petrov. Fifteen points separate the two on top of the GP2 charts, with Belgian Jerome D'Ambrosio further away in 3rd place (3 points less than the Russian driver).

The next round of the GP2 Series will get under way two weeks from now, in Turkey, when the F1 feeder series will schedule 2 races on the Istanbul international circuit.
