Bespoke cars are what Rolls-Royce is all about, but sometimes it feels like the Brits are simply going overboard. They are mainly using any pretext at the moment to launch a new car that was fitted with a certain combination of features and call it ‘unique’.
It’s the case of their latest Wraith, inspired by the Jaguar MK II driven by none other than Inspector Morse. In case you didn’t know about it, that’s a popular UK show that was on air between 1987 and 2000 and focused on a cultivated man that had ‘an ear for music, a taste for beer and a nose for crime.’

One of the trademarks of the show was the car John Thaw (the actor playing Inspector Morse) used to drive. As we said, it was a Jaguar MK II and it used to wear the same paint you see on this Wraith.

According to Rolls-Royce, getting this exact hue took 20 layers of paint and 18 times longer than the usual time but it was all done for one customer that was a huge fan of the show. However, to our eyes, it looks a bit shinier than the Jaguar Morse used to drive.

Under the bonnet lies the same 6.6-liter V12 tuned to make 632 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, capable of doing 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds from a standstill. The problem is the old Jaguar that was used in the movie was nowhere close to what the Rolls is offering.

According to Mr. Thaw himself, it used to break down all the time, deeming the producers to despair on more than one occasion. As a matter of fact, the car was introduced as an idea coming from the TV station as they considered it would make things more interesting. They were right but at what cost?

On a side note, in real life, Mr. Thaw used to drive a Lancia back in the day so you could say he was a genuine car guy.
