Reuter inks TV deal

Retired DTM and endurance racer Manuel Reuter joined the new commentators team of German broadcasting company ARD. 46-year old driver from Mainz, Germany, contested 203 DTM and ITC races with Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Opel, winning the ITC title (DTM's international version) in 1996, at the wheel of a works Opel Calibra V6.

Emerging from a national single-seater background, Manuel Reuter established himself on the top touring car scene from the early 90s. He also made a name in prototype and endurance racing, mainly winning the world famous Le Mans 24-Hour race in 1989 (Sauber Mercedes) and 1996 (Joest Racing). Over more than a decade, Reuter became an iconic driver for Opel and its performance car subsidiary OPC, remaining faithful to the Rüsselsheim-based brand until its DTM retirement.

The last time Reuter drove in the German Touring Car Masters was in 2005, which means he raced against nearly half of today's DTM field, including all three current and former champion drivers at the start of the 2007 season (Bernd Schneider, Mattias Ekström and Gary Paffett).

The ARD represents the exclusive contractual partner for the DTM live coverage, broadcasting all the DTM races and qualifying sessions live. The exclusive contract between broadcasters ARD and DTM organizers has been recently extended until 2009.

German broadcasters have a long tradition of having former racers as permanent commentators on their motorsport programs, such as Niki Lauda, Jochen Mass and Christian Danner (Formula 1), Jürgen Fuchs and Katja Poensgen (MotoGP), Armin Schwarz (WRC) and Ellen Lohr (touring cars).
