With BMW’s latest madness concerning spreading out into every possible (and impossible) niche, a 2 Series Gran Coupe model is more than possible in the near future for a couple of simple reasons.
After the 1 Series Coupe migrated into the brand new 2 Series Coupe and we even saw the introduction of the new 2 Series Active Tourer a sedan-like model is imminent, mainly because it needs to compete with the likes of the new Audi A3 Sedan and the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class that is selling by the dozen in the US.
That gap is still open in BMW’s line-up and a Gran Coupe would fix it, offering a sedan smaller than the F30 3 Series, eventually with a front-wheel-drive setup too, using the UKL platform.
If the car will be launched, it will most likely be marketed as a 4-door coupe by the Germans and that will be fine, but we know what this is going to actually be. After the 6 Series Gran Coupe and the 4 Series Gran Coupe exercise, we’re seeing this as 2017 model.
The rendering here sticks to the most recent design cues employed by BMW and was done by the guys from Auto Projecoes as an imagination exercise, based on the 2 Series Coupe with the M Sport package and the M Performance kit.
