Renault to Present the "R-Screen" 3D Viewer

The 2009 Laval Virtual Exhibition will be the place Renault's Information Technology Department premieres its new R-screen 3D viewer. The new device will be showcased at the stand of CLARTE (Laval Center for Virtual Reality Studies), which is the company behind design and marketing.

With the help of this 3D viewer users can walk around the virtual vehicle and view it from all sides. The R-Screen acts like a movement sensor and displays the exact replica of the real model.

"R-Screen is a motorized screen pivoting 360° and measuring 2.50 m wide and 1.80 m high. It follows the movements of the user in such a way as to always be directly in front of the user. A virtual, scale-one 3D image is displayed on screen. A computer updates the image according to the movements of R-Screen, enabling users to view the virtual vehicle from all angles," a press release read.

There will be two real-life situations presented at the up-coming event. Specialists will provide visitors with the possibility to test both communication events (presenting a vehicle) and engineering use (checking feasibility for welding points).

The virtual reality, 3D devices and interactive technology conference to take place in Laval, France, from April 22 to 26, 2009 will enable press and visitors to talk with the R-screen designers. Amateurs will also have the chance to take a virtual tour of a vehicle, as they would with a real one.

The R-Screen 3D viewer has a wide range of application utilities. It will enable its owner not only to use it for training and designing, but also to present the entire Renault product line-up in a meeting.
