Red Bull - Renault Not a Done Deal!

Although the International Automobile Federation (FIA) yesterday released the provisional entry list for the 2010 Formula One Championship with Renault as Red Bull Racing’s engine partner for the upcoming season, the Milton Keynes team principal Christian Horner begged to differ.

According to German news agency DPA, Horner told some sources that “nothing is decided yet,” adding to the doubts that Renault will make it to the 2010 grid. The French manufacturer is yet to announce its definitive plans for their F1 operations, but several reports have suggested that Renault will choose the Toyota and BMW way by Christmas.

Even some declarations from Renault’s CEO Carlos Ghosn have indicated the fact that the French company doesn’t see their F1 expenditures legitimate, especially considering the current economic crisis worldwide. Under the circumstances, signing Renault as an engine supplier for the new season would prove unhealthy for a team that has recently begun to feel the taste of winning in Formula One.

According to Horner, the only reason why the team chose to agree on a “Red Bull Renault” designation was because the ruling body required every team to name their future partners. However, he did reckon that Renault is the most likely candidate for the job, as switching to Cosworth power plants would certainly be out of the question.

Every team in the F1 paddock has already confirmed their engine suppliers for the 2010 season. While all the newly entrants – plus Frank Williams’ team – have chosen the FIA’s Cosworth option, all the other teams will continue with the same engine partner for the new campaign.
