Rear Wheel Bearing Triggers BMW Recall in the US, Too

As it was expected, the rear wheel bearing issue which caused BMW Canada to recall over 2,400 bikes last months was detected in the US.
The e-mail we got from the NHTSA only specifies the recall campaign number, 13V549 and mentions the rear wheel bearing issue. The NHTSA database is most likely being updated at the time of writing so the exact number of recalled vehicles will be available soon.

Model years 2007-2009 are however mentioned, and this makes us believe, the affected bikes are the same BMW F800S and BMW F800ST.

These bikes are recalled because of an incorrectly manufactured rear wheel bearing which might wear excessively fast, causing rear wheel play, noise and harshness, potentially slowing down the wheel.

You should contact your nearest BMW dealer for an inspection and free replacement of the aforementioned bearing.
