Rally Fighter with BMW Engine at SEMA

You can see a lot of interesting cars at SEMA, but some of them just make your jaw drop. Not necessarily because they’re beautiful or well crafted, but because they amaze through originality.

This is just the case of the Rally Fighter’s prototype, a weird off-road racer designed by Local Motors in order to offer spectacular thrills throughout the deserts of the American Southwest. The vehicle is powered by a BMW 3.0 liter twin-turbo clean diesel sporting 265 ponies and a striking 580 Nm of torque at only 1,750rpm that are directed to the rear wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The car’s aim is to provide lot of fun with very low fuel consumption, and the EfficientDynamics 3.0 liter diesel is just the engine to help it do that, as the total consumption is only between 6.5 liters/100 km and 7.8 liters/100 km. The Rally Fighter is competing for the most efficient title in its desert off-road class.

In addition, Local Motors utilizes a sustainable building methodology and builds cars ‘Just-In-Time’. This process creates little or no waste, and allows customers to actually participate in the build process of their own Rally Fighter.

It seems that such a car only took 15 months to design and offers a complete desert experience. The price is estimated at $50,000 and the producer claims it already has 22 orders.

Rally Fighter Key Stats:
