What is flack? It’s the sort of gun fire aircraft received a lot during the second world war. Basically, you aim a lot of guns at the sky and fire hundreds of shells in the hope of hitting something. It’s not efficient, but it does the job.
Porsche received a lot of flack for the 911 GT3, and we are not talking about the fire recall. The precise track surgical tool was equipped with a PDK gearbox, partly because they didn’t trust us, but mostly because this was the best way to set lap times.

But all the criticism being thrown their way has made Porsche relent. According to Road and Track magazine, a manual-only version of the GT3 will be launched as a limited edition.

The jewel of the crown remains a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated engine, the kind Porsche might not build for too long. It will come straight out of the 911 GT3 and jump into the 911 R, minus the PDK.

The point is to combine fun and speed into a single car. However, it will also work as an homage to the original 911 R. The huge rear wing will be removed and tire width will decrease, so there is more fun to be had.

According to our source, the 911 R is being offered through the Porsche preferred program. That means only people who have more than one 911 or the 918 are being selected. Even if a public debut takes place, production will be strictly limited and only extremely affluent people will afford it.

Despite the recall, the 3.8-liter engine of the GT3 is amazing. It makes 475 hp without turbo and preserves the purity of the sportscar. There’s nothing wrong with using a PDK gearbox to set fast lap times, but it’s a shame it took so long to add a manual.

Still Porsche should have been cutting costs, as the VW group is looking to save cash for the Dieselgate recalls and fines. Does a Porsche man at the help mean the 911 people get a free ride?
