Porsche 918 Spyder Video

One of the most anticipated Porsche models in years, the 918 Spyder, is slowly moving to become the hybrid the German manufacturer has envisioned when it presented the Spyder Concept in Geneva earlier this year.

The transformation from concept to production version also means popularizing the vehicle, so taking it from place to place to attend different automotive events is just the thing the doctor prescribed. In Porsche's case, the latest appearance was at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

While on route to the event, the car was taken out of its trailer and handed to Michael Mauer, Porsche's design chief, who took it for a little drive. The result of the drive can be seen in the video below.

As we already told you, the 918 Spyder will get produced, after Porsche announced this in July, even if the exact technical details surrounding the model have not yet been released.

The concept of the Spyder, the one seen in the below video, is powered by a V8 gasoline engine which develops a touch above 500 hp, used in conjunction with three electric motors on the front and rear axle developing a combined output of 218 hp.

The engine-motors combination allows the model to accelerate to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and top at 198 mph (320 km/h). The new car has been built to allow the driver to select from four driving modes: the electric only E-Drive, the auto-adaptive Hybrid, the Sport Hybrid and the Race Hybrid.

No pricing details about the upcoming limited version have yet been released.
