While we wait for Mercedes-AMG to start production of the GT R, as well as for the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster to make its long-due debut, the brutish coupe from Germany had been uprated by Piecha Design to 607 brake horsepower (612 PS).
Introducing the Piecha AMG GT-RSR. What started life as a Mercedes-AMG GT S (510 PS / 650 Nm / 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds) is now “a masterpiece” and “a jewel in design and technology.” Without regard to the boastful words used by the Rottweil-based tuning house, the Piecha AMG GT-RSR is a more potent beast than the totally badass GT R.
Under the hood, engineers have squeezed that little bit more grunt from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Thanks to the go-faster credentials of 607 horsepower (612 PS) and 840 Nm (620 lb-ft) of torque, the Piecha AMG GT-RSR can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). But extra power without drive-centric mods is nothing. Happily, however, the tuner knows this too.
In terms of driving dynamics, the add-on list starts with a pair of Yokohama Advan Sport V105 275/35 ZR19 tires up front and a duo of 305/30 ZR20 tires at the rear axle, plus 13-mm axle spacers front and rear. In addition to this, the retractable spoiler that comes as standard on the GT S is now aided by a fixed rear wing for additional downforce at high speeds. Also at the rear, round-shaped quad exhaust tips and an aggressive diffuser were added.
Moving on to the side profile and front fascia, here we can see gloss black-painted side skirts with LEDs that light up when the driver opens the door, as well as something that Piecha Design calls “Air Wings” and “Front Cup Wings.” In other words, better aero is the name of the game on this occasion. Last, but not least, the Piecha Design GT-RSR can be further enhanced with an optional coilover spring kit.
