Diesel-electric hybrids deserve a lot more attention than they’re getting. Here is a system that provides amble performance and up to 25% better fuel economy than an equivalent gas-electric system.
PSA is the master of this setup right now, and they are steadily improving the Hybrid4 system they launched in 2010 on the 3008 crossover.

The 3008 Hybrid4s sold from September 2012 are even greener, being able to put out only 91 grams of CO2 per kilometer, as opposed to the 99 grams you currently get. This was achieved through re-engineering the management systems for the hybrid powertrain, the use of low resistance tires and optimization of the energy recovery and on-board battery.

The crossover still provides a total of 200 hp from the 163 hp 2.0 HDi diesel and the electric motor that can generate up to 37 hp. Fuel consumption for the most efficient version is now 3.5l/km (80.7 mpg UK).

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
