Pat Fry Urges Scuderia to Remain Calm, Despite Early Woes

Ferrari's deputy technical director Pat Fry insisted that the guys working flat out at Maranello for the past few weeks must remain calm, in the wake of the team's poor season start in 2011. After being regarded as Red Bull's top contender for the world title this year, the Italian team has come short of delivering the expected results in the first 3 races of the season.

After three races it's clear our priority is to try and improve the performance of our car,” said Fry, who joined Ferrari as a consultant last year, from rivals McLaren Mercedes, before being handed an official role in the organization.

We have a lot of work to do and we must keep our cool in this situation. There is still a long way to go this season and things can change quickly,” he added, urging his staff not to lose hope after the disappointing first few races.

If one can name some of Ferrari's troubles this season (so far), the first that would come to mind would be the 150 Italia's inability to get its tires up to operating temperature. The primary effect of that is poor grid position, with neither Fernando Alonso, nor Felipe Massa nowhere close to challenging for pole position in qualifying.

Furthermore, the latest updates debuted by Ferrari in China did not have the expected effect, as it did little to improve the car's balance and increase downforce.

Prior to the Chinese Grand Prix, Ferrari's technical minds and boss Stefano Domenicali travelled back to Maranello to figure out a “Plan B”, in case the China updates wouldn't have worked out. Since the answer to that dilemma is quite clear now, we can't wait what Ferrari has in store for its fans for the Turkish Grand Prix, scheduled next weekend, on the Istanbul circuit.
