Oshkosh Gets an Extra $175 Million Order from TACOM

The war business keeps on proving a profitable one, as military contractor Oshkosh announced today it has received an extra $175 million order from the US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command Life Cycle Management Command (TACOM LCMC) for the delivery of an additional 400 MRAP All Terrain Vehicles (M-ATV). So far, Oshkosh admits to have received $3.3 billion-worth of orders for the delivery of some 6,619 such vehicles.

We are honored to build these M-ATVs that will help save Warfighters’ lives in Afghanistan. Our employees understand the importance of this program. There is an unfaltering commitment and tremendous persistence at Oshkosh to answer our customer’s needs,” Robert Bohn, Oshkosh Corporation CEO.

With world-class manufacturing capabilities, available capacity and a highly skilled workforce, we continue to be prepared to meet the needs of the U.S. Armed Forces for the M-ATV and other programs, however large the order or complex the vehicle.”

The M-ATV to be delivered to TACOM use the manufacturer's TAK-4 independent suspension system, which allow for 16 inches of independent wheel travel and a 70 percent off-road profile capability. The system is so good that Oshkosh has received an order for an additional 2,400 TAK-4 systems to be integrated into improving the MRAPs already in use in Afghanistan.

Today's announcement is the second in the last two months. In the middle of November, the manufacturer received $438 million for the delivery of no less than 1,000 MRAP vehicles.
