OnStar myGMC App Comes Next Month

American telematics service provider OnStar announced today an entire array of new or upgraded apps for pretty much the entire GM lineup of models: Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet and Buick.

The app for the GMC brand, called myGMC, will be offering location-based services, vehicle-specific information, and OnStar connectivity features. Location-based services include a parking reminder (save the parking location to a GPS-enabled map), roadside assistance and GMC dealership locator.

The vehicle-specific information includes searchable content for the most-commonly accessed information in the owner’s manual, while the OnStar connectivity features comprise OnStar MyLink applications.

“The myGMC app is designed to give consumers information on their vehicle from the comforts of their home or office,” said John Schwegman, US vice president of Buick & GMC marketing. “The app will tell you where you parked, let you lock your car doors if you forgot, or remotely start your car during the winter months, all by using your smart phone.”

OnStar MyLink allows the driver to send remote vehicle commands (unlocking or locking the doors, starting the engine) and access key diagnostic information (fuel tank level, range, remaining oil life, recommended tire pressure and lifetime average miles per gallon).

“The myGMC app is an example of how we are continuously enhancing the GMC owner experience,”
added Schwegman. “With more than 4 billion apps downloaded from the Apple app store alone, we recognize the importance of this platform in deepening engagement with our owners.”

The app will be made available starting early November from the usual destinations: Apple and Android. The app is free for download and use.
