One-off Triumph Daytona 675 Delivered to Afghan Heroes

Denise Harris, the founder of the charity “Afghan Heroes”, was handed over a one-off charity motorcycle recently, from a small group of Royal Navy Harrier Jump Jet engineers. The machine in question is a Triumph Daytona 675 superbike that left the Triumph Hinckley based factory in SE form last August.

Since then a total of 21 key figures in the World and British motorcycle racing community, including Leon Haslam, James Toseland, Troy Corser and Chris Walker, have autographed the fuel tank of this motorcycle. The bike’s body is also adorned by distinctive graphics design created using the charity’s name and logo.

The charity “Afghan Heroes” was launched in September 2009 by a group of mothers who have loosed their sons in action in Afghanistan in the same 24 hour period in July that year. “This charity is the people’s charity with the aims of providing support to our Service personnel in theatre, the families of the fallen, our returning Service personnel and our wounded,” Denise Harris said.

The Servicemen from 800 Naval Air Squadron became involved with the charity “Afghan Heroes” last year, after meeting one of it’s coordinators during a round Britain motorcycle ride they completed for charity. They embarked on this particular project because of their passion for motorcycle racing, and chose this charity because of its close links to the wider motorcycle community, through events like the “Mother’s Day Ride”.

“Afghan Heroes was the obvious choice for this project. I am extremely grateful to all the riders and celebrities who took the time to sign this motorcycle and enable us to create what you see before you. We hope to raise a substantial amount of money with this bike for this extremely worthwhile charity, but also give someone out there the chance to own this little piece of priceless memorabilia,” said Chief Petty Officer Phil “Frog” Spencer.
