One More "Stuck" Prius Hits Stone Wall

While Toyota strives to repair all faulty models and get rid of the stuck accelerator pedal glitch that seriously damaged its image, reports from all around the world with accidents caused by this particular problem keep coming. The most recent example comes from New York, where a woman driving a Prius smashed a stone wall after the accelerator pedal got stuck.

A report by the Detroit Free Press citing Harrison police chief Anthony Marraccini informs that the 56-year-old hasn't suffered serious injuries, but the impact between the car and the stone wall sent some big boulders far enough to understand how powerful the collision actually was.

Interestingly, the floor mats, which were once believed to be the cause of stuck accelerator pedals, were tied to the seat base with plastic ties, the source wrote, which basically leaves us with only one possible explanation: the malfunction was caused by the same faulty pedal that affected millions of cars around the world. However, the car is now at the police headquarters for a closer investigation.

This is the second report of the week involving the Prius and its faulty pedals as a similar case occurred a few days ago when a car believed to have problems with its braking was driven on an US highway.

“This afternoon (Monday, March 8), Toyota learned of a report that a California Highway Patrol (CHP) unit was dispatched in response to a 911 call from a motorist driving a Prius on Interstate 8 in San Diego County who said the accelerator pedal was stuck," a Toyota statement was trying to clarify the case.

“The report states that the CHP unit slowed in front of the vehicle and acted as a brake to bring it to a stop. Toyota has dispatched a field technical specialist to San Diego to investigate the report and offer assistance.”
