A car crash, even of the moderate kind, is usually a big thing. Traffic stops and people flock to check out the damage. Well, when it comes to the Nurburgring and it doesn't involve a Koenigsegg One:1 getting wrecked, an accident can go just as unnoticed as a fly sitting on the track.
The most recent proof of that comes from the piece of footage at the bottom of the page. Recorded during the Touristenfahrten (Tourist Days) even held on Saturday, the clip shows us just how unimportant a Ring crash can be.
The first part of the video allows us to see a 1990s Mercedes-Benz C-Class (die-hard Benz fans call this the W202) entering Adenauer Forst and driving through the corner just to go sliding and crash once it seems the Merc had nailed the bend.
We're not sure about the proportions in which the larger wheels of the C-Class and the heavy rain contributed to the driver losing control, but the protection barrier impacts that followed will lead to not-so-easy-to-forget service visit.
However, just as the occupants of the Mercedes were stepping out of the car to assess the damage, an E61 BMW M5 Touring driver decided he should drive past the crash side sideways, pulling an otherwise respectable drift - no, it's not OK to slide through an area with people on the track.
Fortunately, though, as the uploaded of the video explains, both the driver and the passenger walked away from the accident without a scratch.
And if this happening isn't enough to convince you of the Green Hell track days' extreme randomness, the vehicle line-up shown in the clip should do the trick.
Oh, and in case you're wondering how things went during that session, the car spotted that brought us the clip was kind enough to sum things up for us: "The racing started off perfectly with great weather, but the Nürburgring is notorious for its ever changing weather, suddenly the clouds broke and it was pooring down. This meant some cool drifts, but it also caused a crash involving a Mercedes Benz, after which the Nürburgring was shut after only being open for 55 minutes,"
