No-Preparation Drag Race: Pontiac Nearly Hits the Other Car and Does a Violent Recovery

One thing is for sure - drag racing on a non-prepped surface definitely isn't for everybody. Basically, your grip uncertainty is just as big as what you get on the street.
Besides being on the right side of the law, the main difference between racing on the street and doing it on the drag strip is the prepped surface. However, extreme sports fans do get the chance to take part in no-prep races, but it doesn't always end well, as the driver of a fairly muscular Pontiac Trans Am recently found out.

The Pontiac we're talking about raced another Pontiac, with the two being the second pair on the track. This means there was no rubber on the tarmac to keep the grip level is check.

It all happened during the recent Kansas No Prep event on the Kansas International Dragway. To make things even more delicate for the rear ends of these cars, the sky was cloudy, while the temperature was in the 60-degree range.

We don't know the exact output of the Silver Trans Am in question, but we can tell you that before it lost grip, it was beating the other Trans Am, a car that delivers 960 hp at the wheels.

We won't spoil the fun by giving you too many details here, but we can mention a 100 MPH+ crash was barely avoided.

Before you hit the "play" button below and see the pair battling it out, let's talk about their engine compartment contents a little bit. The Silver Pontiac, a fourth-gen Firebird, is motivated by a 408 CI V8 using a single 94-mm turbocharger.

As for the Red third-generation Firebird, this relies on a 385 CI V8 aided by a pair of turbos.

By the way, among other nicknames, the Silver car is called the FR8Train and that's something you don't want to see derailing.
