NLE to Take Delivery of EV Fleet

In icy Norway, an energy and transportation company which goes by the name of Northern Lights Energy (NLE) is doing the best it can to make the headlines every other week or so, Slowly, NLE is becoming the best friend start-up companies and small electric vehicles manufacturers can hope for, as NLE signs contract after contract in a frantic search for the best, most fuel/cost-efficient vehicle it can get its hands on.

NLE is already a big customer for Liberty Electric Cars, a company that converts Range Rover SUVs into electric models, having ordered 150 of these vehicles at the end of March 2011. Yet, the fleet Liberty is expected to deliver does not come even close to the size of the one ordered from AMP Holding.

Last year, NLE placed an order for 1,000 electric SUVs based on the Chevrolet Equinox platform. This week, NLE and AMP reached an understanding regarding the delivery timetable for the models.

According to puregreencars.com, AMP will deliver the first models within the next 30 days, with even more cars to come to the NLE car pool by September. The twist is that, alongside the Chevy's, AMP will also deliver Mercedes Benz ML-based EVs. NLE is to use the vehicles for its operations in Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

The converted Equinox models will provide a range of up to 150 miles per charge and a naught to sixty acceleration time of around 8 seconds. The SUVs can be recharged from 220V outlets in four hours and from 110V plugs in eight.
