Nissan Shatai to Build Atlas F24, Patrol Pickup

In an attempt to make the production process easier for similar types of vehicles, Japanese manufacturer Nissan announced today a few changes in the production process for the Atlas F24 and Patrol Pickup models.

Both models, currently manufactured by the UD Trucks Corporation, will from now on roll off the assembly lines of Nissan Shatai. The company will take over the production of the two models in March and June 2011, respectively, after production ends at the UD Trucks Corporation plant.

The Atlas F24 will be manufactured by Nissan Shatai at its Auto Works Kyoto subsidiary, while the Patrol Pickup production will be handled by the Shonan Plant.

“As Auto Works Kyoto is currently producing Nissan Civilian and has extensive experience in vehicle customization, they were considered as the ideal manufacturer for the Atlas F24. Meanwhile, as Nissan Patrol SUV, which is similar to Nissan Patrol Pickup, is also produced at the Shonan Plant, production will be more efficient,” the Japanese manufacturer justified its decision.

As for the collaboration between Nissan and UD Trucks, it will end as soon as the last of the Nissan vehicles roll off the partner's assembly lines. Last year, UD Trucks produced 6,150 light-duty trucks.

The brake-up between Nissan and UD Trucks, the Japanese subsidiary of Volvo Trucks, will not affect the financial situation of the Swedish manufacturer.

According to Volvo, the brake-up does not involve any restructuring costs, as the current collaboration framework between the two was slotted to be terminated in August this year. UD Trucks will continue to build light-duty trucks for the export market.
