Next VW Scirocco Will Look Completely Different

March 2008 was when the world first got to see the VW Scirocco as we know it today. Yet it was not something the old timers who owned the original Volkswagen Scirocco would understand.
Just like the 21st Century Beetle has its engine in the front and a DSG gearbox, so too is the Scirocco completely different. Previewed by the 2006 IROC Concept, the car was actually a wider, more agile Golf with an angry face.

Performance was always a part of the equation, but the looks are what made the thee-door model what it is, and they've never changed in the past five years. Volkswagen never messes about with facelifts.

VW head of design himself, the famous Walter de Silva, made the hush-hush statement that could rock Scirocco clubs from around the world at the New York Auto Show while talking to Australian magazine CarAdvice.

He did not go into any sort of detail, but did suggest the next Scirocco will be one of the sportier VW models.

One reason for the switch is that compared to the Golf V that was around when they designed the Scirocco, the VII looks angry and is much wider. And so there's no need to have another wide Golf with three doors and squinting eyes because they already have one.

How they will transform the Scirocco without overlapping it with the TT is beyond us, but we've loved de Silva's every design, so we're not worried.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
