New Routemaster Double Decker on Display in London

Boris Johnson, the man in charge of anything and everything that happens in London, presented last year his vision about the future of mass transportation in London. Shaped up by Wrightbus on a Routemaster platform (a type of bus which used a driver-and-conductor system and which was withdrawn from service in 2005 by former London mayor, Ken Livingstone), the future double-decker of Britain's capital is now getting ready to meet the public and check out their reactions.

A full sized mock-up of the model, which is supposed to go on service next year, is as of this week on display at the London Transport Museum, for all to see and have their say. The bus will stay there for the next three months, allowing the visitors a chance to see the buses that will transport them through London starting next year.

"This is a fantastic chance for Londoners and those visiting the city to catch a glimpse of how this exciting new bus will look and feel as it takes up residence, slap bang in the middle of the city," Boris Johnson, was quoted as saying by The Telegraph. "I, for one, can't wait to see it gracing the streets of the capital."

When it is deployed on the streets, the bus will bring with it an engine which has been designed to be 15 percent more fuel efficient than current hybrid buses. At the same time, Johnson's dreams of turning London into the green capital of the world are supported by the fact that the new double-decker is 40 percent more fuel efficient than diesel powered mass transportation vehicles.
