NavFree Launched in the US

The gazillion iPhone and iPad GPS navigation applications have been joined this week by a new system, developed by Navmii. The company announced the launch of the NavFree USA app intended for the two aforementioned platforms, which will provide user instant access to maps and directions.

The system has already been successfully tested in the UK and Ireland, where some 70,000 users have downloaded the app and are currently using it. The app allows iPhone and iPad owners access to addresses, points-of-interest and even Google location search.

“NavFree has been a huge success in the UK and the most exciting part is the user community, who feedback information on their local area to improve the map data for everyone,” said Peter Atalla, Navmii CEO.

“With Navfree USA we have taken these social features even further, making it easier for people to navigate to places and their friends, for free, forever. And with the maps being stored on your iPhone or iPad you won’t need to rely on mobile network coverage to navigate.”

The advantage of this app over its competition is the fact that the maps are stored on the devices used as GPS themselves, meaning that NavFree USA will not generate mobile data roaming charges and will continue to direct you to the desired location even when mobile network coverage fails.

The developer is currently working on the version of the application which will be compatible with the Android system, but also on a NavFree version for the entire Europe.
