Mosley In Favor of Schu's Testing Ban

FIA president Max Mosley came to echo Frank Williams' thoughts regarding Michael Schumacher's banned test prior to his return to Formula One, as he insisted there can't be any exception or double interpretation of the FIA rule book for 2009.

Mosley did however suggest that the in-season testing ban agreed upon by the members of the FIA is totally unreasonable and should be changed. He argued there were at least two cases this year in which F1 debutants or returnees - Jaime Alguersuari and Michael Schumacher respectively - were in desperate need of an F1 test, but had no other choice than to race "at first sight."

Nevertheless, having obliged the 19-year old Spaniard to race the STR4 in Hungary without any prior testing of the Toro Rosso challenger is proof enough that Schu must also submit himself to the same rules. Especially since we're talking about a 7-time world champion, with plenty of experience in driving F1 cars despite his 2-and-a-half years outside the sport.

"I think the test ban rule is unreasonable, but that's the way it is," Mosley was quoted as saying by German newspaper Bild. "If a 19-year-old driver such as Jaime Alguersuari may not test before his first race, then you can't make an exception for Michael Schumacher," added the 69-year old Brit.

Mosley insisted that he personally tried to push for the scrap of the in-season testing ban in Formula One in favor of an all-around budget cap - this term seems to be peppered through most of Mosley's recent interviews, doesn't it? - but the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) resisted it.
