More Powerful Hyundai Genesis Coupe Coming to 2012 NAIAS

Have you ever seen a car that has everything going for it but somehow it’s not that interesting? We have. It’s called the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and despite having a low price tag, a decent V6 under the bonnet plus relatively good looks, it hasn’t managed to become a runaway success.

Hyundai now makes a lot of cars that sell well in America and it’s trying to build a reputation as a serious heavyweight contender, so the Genesis Coupe deserves a makeover. The model was spotted bearing camouflage while testing its metal at the Arctic Circle. Thanks to Inside Line, we can now also tell you what all that testing effort Hyundai engineers put in was for - more powerful engines.

Both the 2.0-liter and 3.8-liter V6 models will get a significant boost soon, and the revised model will be shown at next year’s Detroit Auto Show. The current 3.8-liter V6 Genesis Coupe produces 306-horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and inside sources say we can expect this to be boosted to 333-horsepower, 291 pound-feet, the same output as the 2012 Genesis Sedan.

No information is available as to how many extra ponies will find their way under the bonnet of the 210 turbocharged 2.0-liter model, but we can expect to see modest gains, as the engine is marketed for its economy figure of 30 mph highway.

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will undoubtedly get an aesthetic revision that will bring it in line with the current design language of the Korean company, and it will also carry more low-buck luxury features.
