MINI Calendar 2010, Available from October

Following the announcement of Porsche's 2010 calendar earlier this month, another German manufacturer steps in and announces its own release. BMW will release the MINI Calendar 2010 in October, with the price set at 21 euros.

Unlike in Porsche's case however, MINI's version has a more artistic approach to it. The calendar has been designed under the Minimalism motto, hence it features not necessarily the MINI itself, but rather interpretations of the car's silhouette.

The story behind the pictures is, according to BMW, the manufacturer's approach when it comes to enhanced efficiency, a reduction in harmful exhausts and lower CO2 emissions. To put the ideas into practice, MINI asked international artists and graphic designers to lend a hand.

What resulted were 4,000 different sketches, posted on MINIspace.com. Unfortunatelly for the biggest part of the participants, a year has only 12 months so, to the jury's despair, they all had to be scrutinized and selected.

The designs which made it in the calendar were drawn by people from South Africa, Thailand, Mexico, Britain and Romania, just to name a few countries. The sketches represent just about everything, starting with the classic arcade game Space Invaders to finger shadow play.

"With the backing of international artists and graphic designers, MINI presents a unique wall decoration that will delight not only committed fans and collectors: the MINI Calendar for the year 2010 is the proud upshot of the MINI Space Design Competition," BMW said in a release. As said, the calendar will be release next month, for 21 euros. It measures 58 cm x 53.5 cm.
