Mercedes Blackbird Design Study

Okay, so Tron: Legacy is out, you've probably seen it and were left speechless by all the neon lights, tights and in-computer racing that went on there. Even if you haven't liked it, you must admit, the movie was impressive, and will likely be more present in our everyday lives than you might like (take a look, for instance, at all the Tron bike suits that have been launched).

What we didn't count on, we must admit, was someone envisioning a Mercedes Benz tron-like thing (for what it's worth, BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics might have fit the idea better). Yet, somebody did.

Spawning right from the brain of Hungarian designer Peter Vardai, the Mercedes Benz Blackbird design study combines some well placed Tron neon lights with design elements borrowed from the SR71 plane wearing the same name.

Exciting as it may look at first sight (a thumbs up to the designer, by the way), the vehicle might have been more credible had it worn a BMW, or even and Audi badge.

The lines of the model, as seen from the side, are a clear inspiration from the aforementioned Vision, with a little bit of Audi e-tron (a coincidence, we're sure) also standing out when looked at from the front.

There are no details on what the designer thinks would best fit the car under the hood, but we reckon anything electric would go (imagine this car wearing the SLS AMG electric drivetrain).

Below is a gallery showing the Blackbird. For additional information (provided you speak Hungarian), follow this link.
