Mercedes Benz Sprinter BlueEFFICIENCY Released

German manufacturer Mercedes Benz announced today the introduction of the BlueEFFICIENCY for the Sprinter line, meaning not only the addition of a badge behind the B-pillars, but also improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

In terms of engines, BlueEFFICINECY for the Sprinter translates into new diesel engines. Actually, the same one, a four-cylinder CDI unit, with three different power outputs: 95 hp, 129 hp and 163 hp, with torque standing at 250 Nm, 305 Nm and 360 Nm and available from "extremely low engine speed."

The BlueEFFICIENCY package for the Sprinter also includes the new ECO Gear six-speed manual transmission, purpose built for vans. The transmission provides a large ratio between first and top gear, with the 6th gear designed as an overdrive.

Additionally, the ECO start-stop system is also present. In urban environment, the Sprinter fitted with this system will allow for some eight percent less fuel consumption and, as a conssequence, lower harmful emissions.

Mercedes will also fit the Sprinter NGT with BlueEFFICIENCY systems. The basic engine for this version of the Sprinter (whether it is in 316 NGT or 516 NGT body styles) is a four cylinder petrol engine, developing 156 hp and 240 Nm of torque.

"The new Sprinter NGT with mono-fuel or bi-fuel natural gas drive confirms this assessment: sharply reduced exhaust gas and noise emissions, appreciably lower upkeep costs, and a large cruising range in combination with the standard drive are some of its advantages," the manufacturer said in release.
