German carmaker Mercedes Benz decided to join UK's tire safety organization, TyreSafe, making it the second manufacturer group to do so. As part of the program, the Germans will run a series of initiatives across its retailer network to showcase the importance the tires have in road safety.
“We are delighted that Mercedes-Benz has taken the decision to join to TyreSafe,” Stuart Jackson, TyreSafe chairman said in a release.
“The companies bring a wealth of experience in the passenger car, fleet and commercial vehicle sectors. This level of insight and understanding will help us enormously as we continue to grow and communicate tyre safety messages to an increasingly wide audience.”
TyreSafe and its campaigns have been credited with reducing the number of defective tires in the UK over the past 16 years from 20 to 12 percent in the last years.
Their existence is mostly due to the fact that most driver's don't pay as much attention to the health of the tires as often as they should.
“We fully support the aims of TyreSafe and the excellent work they are carrying out to raise awareness of the issues associated with driving on defective tyres,” Chris Cromey, Mercedes-Benz national sales and marketing manager.
“By taking an active role in the organization we will be able to help promote these critical safety messages to our own customers and staff, helping to keep them both safe and legal.”
