Even though it is currently still sitting in third place when it comes to annual luxury car sales, Mercedes-Benz is fast approaching both of its arch enemies, BMW and Audi.
In January, the three-pointed star grew faster in terms of sales than both of its competitors, closing the gap in deliveries even more than it did over the course of 2013.

Mostly thanks to a 32 percent increase in its MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform sales, Mercedes-Benz delivered 109,500 vehicles in January, translating into a gain of 15 percent compared to the same period of last year.

BMW, for example, managed an increase of only 9 percent (but still selling more cars overall, ed) while Audi gained 12 percent.

Last year, Mercedes-Benz managed to beat both BMW and Audi in countries like the United States, Germany and Japan, but is still lagging behind the two in terms of global sales because of its Chinese operations, which moved a little slower than its rivals in recent years.
