Four years ago, when the autoevolution website was still wearing its toddler shoes we conducted an interview with Gorden Wagener, who back then had just been appointed the new head of design for Mercedes-Benz.
Almost half a decade later, Wagener has restructured the three-pointed star's design departments in such a way that now we can enjoy the sight of creations like the CLA without them being concept cars but actual production models.
Yesterday's official unveil of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205 took most people by surprise with its new, much more organic exterior shape that brings it even closer to the S-Class flagship than its predecessors did.
Speaking with Car and Driver, Gorden Wagener gave quite a few interesting opinions and insider information about how the new C-Class W205 came to look the way it does.
“We’re moving out of a very generic generation of cars that just had additive volumes. “Here, we blend all the elements together. There aren’t just additive forms on top of each other.” he says of the new C-Class. For the entire design confession you're going to have to check out Car and Driver's article though.
