Mercedes-Benz have set out to prove that their E300 BlueTEC Hybrid is as green as they say it is. They have done a real-world economy run, with which they achieved some very good results. The car was driven by ex-rally driver Mick Linford throughout the entire test.
The first part of the test involved acceleration runs on Newquay Cornwall Airport (the most southern active airport in the UK), where the car managed a very good 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of just over seven seconds. It was followed by top speed runs, where the car reached a peak speed of 218 km/h (136 mph).

The E300 hybrid was then driven due north, some 1,328 km (830 miles), in order to reach the northern-most active airport on the Isles - Wick Airport, in Scotland, where it achieved a top speed of 192 km/h, on a runway which was shorter by 911 meters than that of Newquay.

Finally, after the test was concluded, the car’s trip computer showed an average economy figure of 4.19 l/100km (67.3 UK mpg), and had one-quarter tank of diesel still left. Theoretically, it could achieve a maximum range of 1,760 km (1,100 miles) with one tankfull.
