The current generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been around for a while, getting one facelift in the process. Now, though, the German manufacturer is updating its UK range of C-Class variants, to keep its offering competitive against the new BMW 3-Series - a car from the new generation.
First change of the range are the new trim levels available for both the sedan and the estate: Executive SE, AMG Sport and AMG Sport Plus. The first of these is now the entry level trim, while AMG Sport (replacement for ‘Sport’) adds sporty exterior design touches, as well as 17-inch AMG rims. Opt for AMG Sport Plus gets larger 18-inch alloys, smart bi-xenon headlamps, an AMG bootlid spoiler, AMG sport seats and special upholstery.

The main addition, though, is the new turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with 154 hp. The drop in displacement only affects the power figure, as the new unit has the same torque figure of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft). Under the bonnet of the saloon, it will return 47.8 mpg (5.9 l/100 km) on the combined cycle. Staying in the engines department, it is worth noting that the 3.5-liter V6 has been removed from the range, only being available on the Coupe.

If you are interested in the updated C-Class, be prepared to spend £25,915 for the saloon, £27,115 for the estate and £30,090 for the Coupe. Also, Mercedes claim that this updated car’s residuals are 5% than those of the non-updated model - one extra reason to choose the C-Class over its competitors.
